THE ISSUE: EXPANSION TO 5580 animal units, for a facility with known historic surface water contamination issues.

THE DETAILS: March 5, 2010, 1:00 pm, Albany Lions Club, 402 North Cincinnati Street , Albany , WI

This facility is the subject of the Town of Magnolia's challenge to the Livestock Facility Siting Law and has been the focus of a ten year battle with local citizens. It will be important to turn out a crowd for this hearing-please let us know if you plan to attend and would like talking points by responding to this email. Feel free to pass on to your constituents.

I believe the decision on the appeal by DATCP and the CAFO of the Circuit Court's decision in favor of the local government is coming in on the 17th of February in Madison-this is of huge significance to all local governments dealing with CAFOs in Wisconsin. We hope the decision is upheld. Stay tuned!

"While CAFOs clearly are profitable, they are only profitable because so much of the cost and damage is externalized onto the environment, neighbors and wildlife. The monitoring, supervision, clean-up, restitution, fines are not happening, thus the true cost of CAFOs never find the way onto the balance books." Talking point from the CAFO Conference.
